Performer, teacher and eternal student of the blues.
I've been fortunate to live my music dream for many years now. Playing the guitar and singing great stories from the early days of blues, hillbilly, country and other traditional styles has taught me a great deal about the world — and about myself.
Born in former Yugoslavia, I found music early and never let it go. After years of gigging and musically growing through my old home country, Hungary, Italy and Germany, I settled in Sweden in 1992 and have been performing across Scandinavia ever since — at blues festivals, guitar trade shows, intimate venues, and my very own Guitar Retreat on the Island of Ven.
I started performing professionally at 23. That's now more than 43 years ago — and the guitar still surprises me every time I play.
That doubt has been spinning in my head since I was first asked to teach — at age 30.
I use my 45 years of playing experience to help guitarists reach their best potential. It's never about who is "better" — it's about where we each are on our music journey. I might be a few years ahead on the blues and slide path, so I can help someone avoid some of the hurdles I stumbled over myself.
My approach is song-first. A lick is meaningless if it doesn't serve a song or a groove. I find the fastest way to real progress for each player — and I especially love working with people who played seriously in their youth and are finding their way back to the instrument.
I'm regularly booked for blues festivals across Scandinavia and as a featured workshop presenter at major guitar trade shows — with a focus on acoustic slide guitar technique.
I'm a true nerd when it comes to packing and organising gear — all equipment meticulously packed and ready, every time. My colleagues have watched me Tetris-pack a tour bus and stood there in silence (or went for a coffee… "He's got it…").
I'm very nerdy at video production and photography, and I document the Retreat every year. I'm also great at helping people jump over the many hurdles when learning video production themselves, doing mostly video consulting (hardware choices, studio setups etc.)
I'm a trained physiotherapist and I bring that knowledge of ergonomics, posture and body mechanics to guitar teaching — helping players avoid the injuries and tension that derail so many good habits.
YouTube has become my platform for sharing everything I've learned over decades of playing. You'll find detailed instructional videos, song tutorials and more than 100 live guitar livestreams covering blues, slide technique, fingerpicking and the musical thinking behind it all.
It's free, it's honest, and it's built for players of all levels.
My acoustic "road warrior" — built by luthier Michael Sandén — has been with me since 1996. Thirty years of gigs, retreats and studio sessions. It sounds better every year. Read the full story of this guitar and all my instruments →
